All about Alligators

The American Alligator is a protected species in Florida. They are considered a keystone species.

A keystone species is a species that others depend on. If that species is removed from an environment it could change an entire ecosystem.

Alligators were once on the endangered species list. Alligators were almost hunted to extinction.

Alligators have since recovered from near extinction. Alligators are protected in Florida, and you have to have a special permit to hunt them.

We now have over a million Alligators in Florida!
