Bluegills have many nicknames because of their varying coloration and features.

They get the name Bluegill because of the black spot that appears on their gill cover.

The Bluegill is a very common species in Florida’s freshwater ponds and rivers.

Fishermen love the Florida Bluegill because they are prey for many of Florida’s game fish!
